Car rental in Singapore should be reserved and negotiated in advance due to large number of visitors. There can be some drawbacks, when upon arrival the company says the car one had reserved is not available, though they generally do their best to find one. It should be asked in advance, whether the price includes coverage for more than one driver, Singapore insurance and refueling fees. Nearly all companies apply surcharges for special requests, such as minivans, convertibles etc.

Valid driving license should be accompanied with other photo ID and International Driving Permit. The person who rents a car must have a major credit or debit card as a deposit, even if presenting a voucher. Minimum rental age is 21, some companies require 25. Many offices can refuse renting a car to a person with bad driving records.

These include DUI violations, some reject even for minor things, such as seat belt violations and accidents regardless of fault. This should be clarified in advance, in case of such pretences those who rent car demand detailed explanations of the criteria. Some companies require signing a document, that the driver did not have any accidents, even minor.

The surcharges can be applied for renting in airport, additional drivers, under-age (21-24) drivers, child safety seats rental, vehicle drop-off fees, refueling charges, Rental car Insurance and Loss Damage Waiver. Automobile club membership and type of credit card may in some cases give slight discount.
